1. _I_n_t_r_o_d_u_c_t_i_o_n
This release note documents six components of the IRIS
InSight family-IRIS InSight Viewer, SGIHelp, SGIHelp/XHELP
Developer's kit, DesktopHelp, IRIS InSight Topic/Task
Navigator and Document Library.
IRIS InSight Viewer lets you access Silicon Graphics' online
document and support libraries. With this product, you can
view the glossary of terms, the online Help, and the online
versions of the standard end-user documentation set. If you
have purchased the IRIS Development Option, you can view the
development documentation set.
SGIHelp is based upon the IRIS InSight technology. Content
that is displayed to the user is retrieved directly from a
set of IRIS InSight "books". Once within the SGIHelp
Viewer, the user can scroll through the text, navigate via
hypertext links, view glossary terms, print, and browse an
available Index of Help topics for the particular
application that generated a help request.
SGIHelp is an application that is invoked only when a
request is made to get ``Help''. A user should never have to
start SGIHelp from the command-line.
The SGIHelp/XHELP Developer's kit is a set of tools that
enable developers to create context sensitive and topic
based help for their applications. Help created with these
tools is directly viewable from within the SGIHelp system.
The Desktop Help Software communicates directly with the
program SGIHelp (the Desktop Help Server program) to provide
an overview of tasks a user would perform using tools on the
desktop. The Desktop Help Index that gets displayed to the
user is a task-orientated means of accessing help for the
desktop. This index can be used to launch the user straight
into the SGIHelp viewer for a particular topic. Once within
the SGIHelp Viewer, the user can scroll through the text,
navigate via hypertext links, view glossary terms, and
print.
The IRIS InSight Topic/Task Navigator is used in conjunction
with the Support Advantage and Support Partner Advantage
products. It gives a user the capability to navigate SGI-
authored topic or task trees to reveal entry points
(hypertext links) into the IRIS InSight documentation.
Note: Packaged with this software is a separate sheet that
contains the Software License Agreement. This
software is provided to you solely under the terms

and conditions of the Software License Agreement.
Please take a few moments to review the Agreement.
The End-User Document Library in this release includes:

Other End-User books are parts of the products included in
the IRIX Execution Environment products. Developer books are
part of the products included in IDO Software Option. Many
other optional software products include books as well.
Note: Products such as the Support Partner Advantage
(ptnr_lib) CD and the Support Advantage (supp_lib) CD
contain their own release notes which should be
consulted and used in conjunction with the IRIS
InSight Viewer release notes.

1.2 _O_n_l_i_n_e__R_e_l_e_a_s_e__N_o_t_e_s
After you install the online release notes for a product
(the _r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s subsystem), you can view the release notes on
your screen.
Select ``Release Notes'' from the Tools submenu of the
Toolchest. This displays the _g_r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s(1) graphical browser
for the online release notes.
Refer to the _g_r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s(1) man page for information on
options to this command.
Note: You can read the online release notes for most
products before installing the software. Refer to
the booklet in your CD-ROM case for more information.
1.3 _O_n_l_i_n_e__H_e_l_p
After you install the IRIS InSight Viewer product, you can
view the online help that is available for the product.
The online help can be accessed from the ``Help'' menu item
of the library or the book windows.
